5 Best Scooter Routes in Bali, Starting from Ubud

From the rice terraces of Tegallalang to the cliffs of Uluwatu — five tested rides with timing, road notes, and the right bike for each, from our base in Gianyar.

Bali is one of the world's great islands to explore on two wheels — and the best riding doesn't start in Kuta. It starts here, in the green center, where our base in Pejeng Kangin sits within an hour of volcanoes, valleys, and coastlines. These five routes are the ones we ride ourselves and recommend at every handover.

1. The Backyard Loop: Pejeng → Tegallalang → Tampaksiring

±35 km round trip · easy · half a morning. Rice terraces without the tour-bus energy. Leave at sunrise, glide through Tegallalang before 8am, coffee at a ridge warung, then return past Gunung Kawi's ancient rock temples. Perfect first ride on any bike in the fleet — even the Fillano handles it with ease.

2. The Volcano Climb: Ubud → Kintamani

±30 km one way · moderate · half day. A steady, beautiful climb to the rim of Mount Batur's caldera. The air cools with every kilometer; the view at the top is Bali's best breakfast backdrop. Bring a jacket — it's genuinely cold up there. This is NMAX territory: the 155cc engine makes the climb feel flat.

3. The Secret East: Sidemen Valley

±35 km one way · easy-moderate · full day. Emerald rice fields under Mount Agung, near-empty roads, and villages where tourism still whispers. Combine with Tukad Cepung waterfall on the way out. Light traffic makes this the most relaxing full-day ride in Bali.

4. The Sunset Run: Gianyar → Canggu

±32 km one way · moderate traffic · afternoon + evening. Cross to Bali's café coast for beach clubs and that famous sunset. Leave mid-morning to skip Denpasar congestion, come home fed and salty after dark. A comfortable PCX makes the highway stretches feel short.

5. The Pilgrimage: Ubud → Uluwatu

±55 km one way · full day. Limestone cliffs, the clifftop temple, the Kecak fire dance at sunset. It's the longest ride on this list and worth every kilometer. Fuel up in Denpasar, start early, and treat it as the epic day out it is.
